Item Setup — Sam's Club

Procedure

Step 1 — Prepare Category Files

Fill out the following Excel files:

• CAT 1
• CAT 4

Step 2 — Submit for Review

Send completed CAT 1 and CAT 4 files to:

• Leinani
• Michelle

They will review and provide changes. Incorporate any feedback before proceeding.

Step 3 — Set Up Item in IDM

1. Go to Retail Link

2. Open IDM from within Retail Link

3. Create new item:

   • Select Create New Item Form
   • Vendor Type: Brand Owner Vendor Number

4. Complete Attributes:

   • Net Wt
   • Pallet Info
   • Shelf Life

Step 4 — Set Up Packaging Hierarchies

1. Add the top level (Pallet)
2. Click "All Packaging Hierarchies of {item number}"
3. Click the GTIN
4. Click the Relationships tab
5. In the Child GTINs section, click the More Actions menu → click Create & Add
6. Fill out the "Create & Add Draft Packaging Trade Item" form (see below)
7. Repeat steps 3–6 to add each child level (Case, then Base Unit)

Work top-down: Pallet → Case → Base Unit. Each parent gets its child linked through the Relationships tab.

Important: All packaging hierarchy levels must use the same units for Height, Width, Depth, and Weight. Use inches for dimensions and pounds for weight across Pallet, Case, and Base Unit.

Step 5 — Submit the Item

After all item attributes and packaging hierarchy information are completed:

1. Return to the main item page
2. Go to the right sidebar
3. Click Submit

Do this only after the item attributes and packaging hierarchy setup are fully completed.

Create & Add Draft Packaging Trade Item

Pallet Settings

When creating the Pallet level, use these standard settings:
